Review: MOFIR Gaming Headset

The MOFIR Gaming headset uses a 3.5mm plug for both audio and mic connections and has LED lights that are powered by a USB connection.  All functions can be used without plugging them into a USB port. This allows them to be used with a multitude of devices including phones, tablets, TVs, and gaming systems. The headset is constructed almost entirely of plastic and at first glance and even after handling them they feel cheap. This is an instance where you should not judge a book by its cover though. The plastic build keeps them light which helps when wearing them for an extended period. The headband is extremely flexible and has a very plush cushion on the underside where it rests on your head. The ear cups have well padded cushions that are a little on the firm side. They are not uncomfortable but do not provide as good of a seal as I would like. The cable is heavily coated in rubber and all connectors are robust. About 18in down the cable is a large controller which has a volume dial.

The microphone on the headset works fairly well but has little to no noise cancellation.  The speakers in the headset have more than ample output.  Even when plugged into a phone they can get more than loud enough.  As far as sound quality they impress for for the price but have an emphasis on the mid range which can actually be nice for dialog in videos or games.  The bass is a little on the weak side and they lack some detail in the higher frequencies, but in general they sound pretty good.  The lack in detail in the upper frequencies may prevent you from hearing footsteps or soft noises while gaming though so keep that in mind.  Regardless, these sound better than most computer speakers and built in speakers in TVs and monitors.

Overall the MOFIR Gaming Headset is an awesome budget headset for both gaming and listening to music.  The included audio splitter allows this headset to work on a wide range of devices.  I feel that you cannot go wrong with this headset.

Review: MOFIR PS4 Controller Dock

The MOFIR PS4 Controller Dock offers the ability to conveniently store and charge two PS4 controllers at the same time.  It is constructed almost entirely of plastic and includes the dock, manual, cable, and controller thumb pads.  The dock can be powered by a charger you supply or from one of the USB ports on your PS4.  Each controller can be charged at up to 500mA so it may not be the fastest charger, but works fine for charging your controller between gaming sessions.  The dock has an LED indicator at each docking point to let you know the status.

Overall the dock is built well although I wish the base were waited to help it stay in place when trying to dock a controller.  At this price it will be hard to find a better dock.

If you are interested in purchasing this dock it can be found here.

Review: MOFIR PS4 Cooling Stand

The MOFIR PS4 Cooling Stand is an easy and inexpensive way to not only cool your PS4, but also add quite a bit of convenience in a small footprint.  It is constructed completely of plastic but built well for its price.  A standard or slim PS4 can sit vertically in the stand atop two cooling fans that are powered by a single USB cable that plugs into your PS4.  This plug also powers three USB ports on the fornt of the stand and two controller charging docks to the side of the PS4.  The ports and controllers can only charge at a maximum rate of 500mA though so they will not be as fast as some other chargers.

Overall the MOFIR provides a lot of bang for the buck and I have no problem recommending it.

Review: KKmoon LED Gaming Mouse Pad

The KKmoon LED Gaming Mouse Pad is one of many computer items that have recently gotten into the LED craze, because why not.  The mouse pad is constructed mostly of plastic with a metal accent at the cable exit.  The top has a slight texture to help with tracking but is extremely slick.  The bottom of the mouse pad has four rubber feet to keep it securely in place when in use.  LEDs line the perimeter and the color and light pattern can be cycled by pressing the button near the metal accent.

The mouse pad is USB powered and can plug directly into your computer for convenient power.  The LEDs are plenty bright but since they are aimed towards the sides do not become distracting.  When using a Logitech MX Master mouse I had no issues with tracking and the surface felt extremely smooth and precise.  The only thing missing from this mouse pad is a strain relief for people who prefer a wired mouse.

Overall this is a great mouse pad, especially if you are looking for one with LED accents.

Review: Anker PowerLine Lightning 3 Pack

Anker has become synonymous with quality USB charging products in the tech world and their PowerLine cables are no exception.  The PowerLine cables feature Anker’s aramid fiber core which combined with Apple MFI certification, allows them to be some of the strongest and fastest charging cables available.  They are able to charge at 2.4A with ease which is currently the highest draw from an Apple device.

Thanks to their durable construction I have no doubt that you can bend these cables over 5000 times as Anker claims.  Using an inline volt meter I was able to test these cables up to 2.5A of draw, even with the 10ft cable.  Included with the three pack are three cables at 3ft, 6ft, and 10ft lengths as well as three Velcro cable ties.

If you own an iOS device that utilizes a Lightning connector, I highly recommend this three pack.  They are built to lost, charge fast, and having all three lengths available is extremely convenient.

If you are interested in purchasing these cables, they can be found here.

Review: Kren Charging Station

The Kren Charging Station is constructed completely of plastic but looks and feels well made.  It has nine removable dividers to provide eight slots to store devices while charging.  It provides eight USB-A ports that are capable of charging at up to 2.4A each, which many other charging stations are not capable of.

Throughout my testing I was able to charge an iPad Pro 13, Nexus 7 2012, Nexus 7 2013, Sharp Aquos, Galaxy Nexus, iPhone 6S Plus, Nexus 6, and Moto 360 at their max charging speed.  This is the first charger I have found that is able to do so without issue.  Even while charging all eight devices it did not even get warm.

Overall this is a great charger and makes for the perfect bed side charging station if you are like me and have many devices to keep charged.  Add eight universal chaging cables and it makes it even better.

If you are interested in the Kren charging station it can be found here.

Review: Extragiga Lightning Flash Drive

If you have ever wanted to transfer files between two iDevices you know how difficult it can be.  You can send each file via email or plug one device into a computer, copy the files, then plug the second device in to copy the same files from the computer to it.  In many circumstances this just isn’t practical.  This is where the Extragiga, and yes that is the real name, can make thins so much easier.  It is a fairly simple device in that it is nothing more than a traditional USB 3.0 thumb drive with a Apple MFI Certified Lightning connector opposite the traditional USB connector.

Usage is as simple as you would hope.  Simply install the Extragiga app from the App Store and plug the drive in.  From within the app you can Move pictures, videos, music, and recording back and forth between the phone and the drive.  It also gives you the ability to backup and restore contacts.  For security you can even set the app to use Touch ID before gaining access.  When plugging the drive into a computer it acts just like any other thumb drive.  Transfer speeds are a little on the slow side but for a drive in this price range with a lightning connector it performs comparably to others I have used.

Overall the Extragiga drive is built well and easy to use.  It makes moving files between devices much easier than using a computer as a middle man and the ability to use it to back up your media and contacts is more than worth what the drive costs.

Verizon plays major role in economic development with enhanced infrastructure and $341 million capital investment in Pennsylvania

Sustained investment year after year — $11.2 billion in 2016, combined with deployment of new technologies, leads to repeat of national and Pennsylvania top network awards by RootMetrics

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Ever wondered how millions of visitors a year can connect at events from the City of Brotherly Love to the Steel City and every town in between in the whole Commonwealth of Pennsylvania? It doesn’t happen by accident.

In 2016, Verizon Wireless invested over $341 million to provide residents, visitors and businesses with cutting-edge technology and consistently reliable wireless service throughout Pennsylvania.  Since 2000, Verizon has invested $122 billion across the U.S. to maintain the most reliable network for voice calls, multimedia communication, media consumption and internet connectivity.  That sustained investment means the best network for our customers.  It results in the deployment of new technologies to provide consistently fast data speeds, the largest 4G LTE network, and reliability that can’t be matched.

Verizon was just awarded another clean sweep of independent third party RootMetrics national awards including having the top-rated network performance for the 7th consecutive time. And, after winning in every category in the latest RootMetrics testing, Verizon was named the #1 overall network in Pennsylvania.

“This distinction by a scientific, respected third party is a reflection of the extensive investment our company makes each day so that our customers have around-the-clock access to exceptional voice calling and lightning fast 4G LTE data services for web surfing, video chatting and uploading photos to social media,” said Michele White, Executive Director of Market Operations in the Pennsylvania region. “Verizon is committed to providing the best network for our customers, and we continually invest to ensure reliability. $122 billion is a massive investment – the discount carriers can’t hold a candle to our investment.  We know customers count on us and we’ll continue to make sure we extend our lead over the competition to provide our customers with the best experience, leading the wireless industry.”

Network Improvements for Pennsylvania

That level of consistent recognition takes planning and we’ve been executing those plans for Pennsylvania citizens all year.  Noteworthy statewide enhancements include the addition of more than a dozen new macro sites in the greater Philadelphia area.  New small cells at Thiel College in Western Pennsylvania consist of a radio, antenna, power and a fiber connection and are strategically positioned on street lights, sides of buildings or other structures. They operate within Verizon’s existing network coverage area to add additional 4G LTE capacity where it’s needed most – in heavy traffic areas.  Additionally, Verizon installed new DAS systems in Amber, Gladwyne, Upper Darby and West Chester.  Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) consist of unseen cables and numerous antennas distributed throughout high traffic areas such as stadiums, convention or shopping centers, office buildings, train stations, airline terminals, and dense, outdoor urban areas. The 2016 investments also included the launch of Verizon’s next gen technology LTE Advanced that provides 50 percent faster peak speeds for customers.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ), headquartered in New York City, has a diverse workforce of 162,000 and generated nearly $132 billion in 2015 revenues. Verizon operates America’s most reliable wireless network, with 113.7 million retail connections nationwide. The company also provides communications and entertainment services over mobile broadband and the nation’s premier all-fiber network, and delivers integrated business solutions to customers worldwide.

Review: Nulaxy KM20 Bluetooth FM Transmitter

The Nulaxy Bluetooth FM Transmitter came well packed in a sleeved retail style box and includes a user guide and a short 1/8th in. audio cable.  The device is constructed mostly of plastic and utilizes a 12v plug to support it.  A flexible arm is attached to the plug and extends out to the main portion of the device.  This design is convenient and will work in most cases but I suggest looking at the picture to determine if it will work in your vehicle.

On the top of the device you will find a 1.5in screen and seven buttons.  The buttons can be used to cycle through different FM frequencies, play, pause, stop, answer, end, skip tracks, and control the volume.  If you are used to the controls on other Bluetooth devices, it will take no time at all to get used to the ones on the KM20.  The device also features an aux. in/out port.  This can be used to take advantage of the aux. in on many newer cars for better than FM sound quality as well is channeling audio from a device that does not have Bluetooth.  The KM20 also features two 2.1A USB charging ports which is an awesome addition.

Overall the KM20 FM transmitter is a well rounded device that is easy to use, performs well, and is loaded with features.  If its design works in your vehicle, I highly recommend it.

Review: KKmoon Haoxie 8.5″ Digital LCD Writing Pad

The KKmoon Haoxie Digital LCD Writing Pad is constructed entirely of plastic other than the screen.  The included style snaps into the bottom of the pad for easy storage.  The portion of the device that you can write on is 8.5″ diagonally and about the size of a steno pad.  The LCD is pressure sensitive so you can actually shade your drawings or write more boldly when more pressure is applied.  Once you are done and want to clear the screen you simply press a button at the top of the device to instantly clear it.  The device is powered by a 3V watch battery that is supposed to last  for over a year but only time will tell.

Overall the KKmoon Haoxie DIgital LCD Writing Pad is a handy device that is simple to use and at its low price it makes for the perfect device to leave notes.
